There are loads of types of beans from your french climbing to the chunky broad bean, dwarf varieties of favourites like bolotti beans to the runner bean seen on the majority of allotment plots up and down the country.
The runner bean was my first foray into growing my own and was a great success – the gardening bug grew from there!
Beans are great – they form the category of vegetable known by the term ‘Legume’ and form part of the traditional 4 bed rotation plan. Legumes are plants that produce seeds in a pod and range from peanuts to french beans, edamame to peas.
